Post and rail fencing can be seen throughout Australia as both decorative, fashionable property boundaries and as a stock fences. They usually consist of wooden brace posts joined by two or more wooden cross rails. This fence looks nice and is often incorporated into professional landscape designs.
Post and rail is commonly used for the fencing of fields and paddocks and is particularly suited for containing horses. The fencing offers a safe barrier for the horses to chew and lean against without injury and scaring usually associated with metal posts and wires. The posts and rails are available in both tanalised and pressure creosoted treatment. The rails can be of a regular sawn shape or cleft, that is split out. The latter usually being chestnut.
Suitable for boundary fencing or paddock fencing. Post and rail fencing is softwood pressure treated.
Stock fences are designed to keep livestock and cattle in. When designing a stock fence we take into account a number of different factor including - What type of animals are to be contained? Is only one type of animal going to be in the paddock? What are the local ground conditions? The answers to these questions determine the size of the posts, post centers, use of barbed wire (and how many rows), type of stock netting to be used and the appropriate materials for the rural fence.
